On October 26, 2026, a meeting of the “Molecular Genetics Laboratory” Student Scientific Club was held under the supervision of Associate Professor Olha Obukhova.
This time, the participants explored a highly relevant topic — the genetic mechanisms underlying mental health, stress resilience, and the adaptive capacity of the human body.
During the meeting, students discussed the biological foundations of mental health, the interaction between heredity and environmental factors, the polygenic nature of mental disorders, and current trends in molecular genetic research.
The following students delivered scientific presentations:
Olha Rozmaita (MC-212) — “The Mental Health Genome: How Genes Interact with the Environment in the Development of Mental Disorders.” https://youtu.be/PEAtJvJKnnc
Mariia Lastovets (MC-210) — “BDNF as a Genetic Factor in Neuroplasticity and Brain Adaptation.” https://youtu.be/o3qFbg9Xfgc
Taisiia Kharchenko (MC-306) — “Genes of the Serotonergic and Dopaminergic Systems in the Regulation of Mental Health.” https://youtu.be/ZgtVSqHRO6A
Special attention was paid to how genetic variations influence the body’s response to stress, the brain’s capacity for neuroplasticity, and individual susceptibility to mental disorders.
The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for students to deepen their knowledge of molecular genetics, neurobiology, and psychophysiology, as well as to develop their skills in scientific analysis and discussion of contemporary research.
We sincerely thank the student presenters for their informative presentations, interesting scientific insights, and active participation in the club’s activities!
