On June 23, 2025, students of the 9th and 10th grades, participants of the Minor Academy of Sciences (MAN) research competition from the city of Sumy, visited the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with the course of Medical Biology.
As part of the visit, the students learned about the history of the department, academic disciplines, scientific research, and the work of the department’s student scientific circles.
Zoya Levchenko introduced the students to the composition and functions of blood, the secrets of blood group inheritance, and the distribution of blood types among populations. She also conducted a live demonstration of blood group determination using the ABO system. The students enthusiastically took part in the experiment and listened attentively to the information, which helped them successfully complete a final quiz testing their knowledge about blood.
The visit to the Molecular Genetics Research Laboratory sparked particular interest. Associate Professor Antonina Biesiedina introduced the students to the laboratory’s main research areas, DNA analysis technologies, methods for detecting genetic mutations, and the principles of modern laboratory equipment.
At the end of the excursion, the students visited the Medical Biology classroom-museum, where Associate Professor Besedina presented macro- and microscopic specimens of parasites that cause human diseases.
Wrapping up the visit, the students expressed their gratitude for the new knowledge and vivid impressions.
The excursion generated great interest among the students, who actively asked questions throughout the event. It inspired curiosity and motivation to study medical-related subjects and helped the students discover new opportunities.
We thank all participants for their enthusiasm and wish them continued success in their studies and in achieving their future goals!
