Students of the Classical Gymnasium Visited the Molecular Genetic Research Laboratory of NNMІ SumDU

On February 10, 2025, students of grades 9-11 from the Classical Gymnasium had a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of modern science during a tour of the Molecular Genetic Research Laboratory at the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute of SumDU. The event was led by Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a Course in Medical Biology, Olga Obukhova.

During the tour, students learned about the main research areas of the laboratory, DNA analysis technologies, methods for detecting genetic mutations, and the principles of modern laboratory equipment. The scientist clearly demonstrated the DNA extraction technique from biological samples and explained the principles of PCR analysis, including subsequent fragment restriction, electrophoresis, and the most advanced real-time PCR method.

The tour sparked great interest among the students, who actively asked questions and discussed the possibilities of modern molecular biology. Such events contribute to the popularization of science among young people and help future applicants decide on their career paths. The organizers expressed hope that many of the tour participants would eventually become students of SumDU’s medical programs.
