On December 2, 2025, the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology organized a round table discussion on the topic: “Educational Dimension and Practical Application of mhGAP Protocols in Training Future Primary Healthcare Professionals.”

The event was attended by second-year students of group МЦ-408-5, specialty Medicine, who are currently studying the course “Fundamentals of Mental Health: mhGAP.”

Participants discussed the importance and principles of integrating mental health services into general medical practice, analyzed the ways mhGAP protocols can be applied at the level of primary healthcare, and evaluated the effectiveness of interventions offered within the program.

Students shared their impressions of completing the course “Management of Common Mental Disorders at the Primary Care Level Using the mhGAP Guide,” hosted on the NHSU platform for non-specialists in the field of mental health. They emphasized its practical focus and accessibility. The participants concluded that the techniques learned during the course can already be applied in communication with family members and friends, which highlights its practical value.

According to the students, the introduction of the course “Fundamentals of Mental Health: mhGAP” into the educational curriculum is an essential step toward developing competencies necessary for providing patient care and fostering a culture of mental health awareness.

Prof. Viktoriia Harbuzova, who moderated the event, emphasized the strategic importance of training medical professionals capable of effectively identifying and managing mental disorders at the primary care level, which is a key foundation for a sustainable healthcare system.
