As part of Brain Awareness Week, on March 10, third-year student Yelizaveta Pastushkova organized an intellectual game for schoolchildren in Sumy called “Brain Maze.”
During the quiz, participants learned that the human brain contains 86 billion neurons—the information messengers responsible for transmitting signals between different brain regions.
The brain is the most complex organ in the human body, composed of various parts that regulate specific functions. It controls everything—from fundamental processes like breathing and heart rate to more complex activities such as decision-making, memory, and language. Moreover, the brain communicates with other organs through hormones.
Interestingly, the brain is 73% water, meaning that even 2% dehydration can negatively impact memory and cognitive abilities.
Unlike digital devices, the brain’s memory capacity is unlimited.
If a person in love undergoes functional MRI scanning, the images will reveal activated areas associated with dopamine—a neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure. And that’s just one of the many mysteries of our brain!
Through the quest, children also received valuable tips on how to maintain brain health and enhance cognitive abilities in the future.
The event took place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, promoting public awareness and support for neuroscience.
