Participation in the Online Discussion: The Role of the Academic Community in Shaping European Integration During the War in Ukraine

On October 1, 2025, Zoya Levchenko, Assistant at the Department, took part in an online panel discussion dedicated to the challenges faced by Ukrainian higher education institutions during the war and the ongoing crisis.

The event was organized in cooperation with the associated Ukrainian partner universities of the E³UDRES² European University Alliance from the cities of Cherkasy and Sumy, which have directly experienced the consequences of the war, and also featured the participation of international experts.

Speakers of the event included:

Nadiia Azmuk, Deputy Director for Academic and Methodological Work, Associate Professor, Doctor of Economics, Cherkasy State Business College / NAS of Ukraine;

Alla Krasulia, Head of the International Cooperation Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, Sumy State University;

Svitlana Zhabotynska, Professor of Foreign Languages, Educational and Scientific Institute, Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy;

Claudia Wiesner, Professor of Political Science, Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

Moderator: Leopold Köchler-Wenkur, St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, Austria.

During the discussion, the experts shared their experiences of working in the challenging conditions of war. Together with an expert on European integration from the Fulda University of Applied Sciences, participants examined the historical context of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union.

In addition, the speakers presented policy recommendations in the field of higher education, taking into account the ongoing crisis and wartime conditions, as well as the current situation in Ukraine.
