One of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals is “Good Health and Well-being.” The Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology actively works to inform school students, university students, staff, and the Sumy community about ways to achieve this goal. Our outreach initiatives, including Brain Awareness Week, are dedicated to this mission.
On March 12, as part of Brain Awareness Week, Professor Viktoriia Harbuzova delivered a captivating lecture titled “The Secrets of the Brain’s Nightlife: What Really Happens When We Sleep.”
Participants learned about the vital role of sleep in human health, its physiological phases, and neural mechanisms. The discussion became particularly lively when addressing sleep hygiene topics—how many hours of sleep are needed, the optimal times for falling asleep and waking up, and why it is important to avoid using gadgets and eating before bedtime.
As a result of the lecture, attendees identified personal strategies to optimize their sleep schedule, aiming to improve their mental health and overall well-being.
