On February 18, 2025, 11th-grade students from Lyceum No. 33 in Sumy visited the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a Course in Medical Biology. During the excursion, the students learned about academic disciplines, and scientific research, and visited the Parasitology Museum, where Assistant Lecturer Levchenko Z.M. introduced them to the main types of parasites that can affect humans, their life cycles, and methods of prevention.
A highlight of the visit was the Molecular Genetic Research Laboratory, where students gained insight into DNA and RNA extraction and the principles of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Associate Professor Obukhova O.A. demonstrated PCR methodologies, including DNA fragment restriction and electrophoresis, as well as real-time PCR, which are widely used in modern genetics and medicine.
Such events allow students to get acquainted with scientific research methods, expand their knowledge of biology and medicine, and help them make informed career choices.
