As part of the “May – Mental Health Awareness Month” initiative, Professor Viktoriia HARBUZOVA held a preventive lecture for students

May is traditionally recognized worldwide as Mental Health Awareness Month. This year, in Ukraine, it is being held under a special slogan: “How are you? Meaning is nearby”, which emphasizes the importance of finding inner strength during challenging times. The main goal of this initiative is to draw public attention to the importance of taking care of psychological well-being and to foster a culture of mental health support.

On May 13, 2025, as part of this awareness month, Professor Viktoriia HARBUZOVA held an informational event titled “Sleep as an Essential Component of Mental Health Support” for second-year students of our department. During the interactive lecture, participants had the opportunity to:

  • learn about the connection between sleep quality and psychological well-being;
  • become familiar with evidence-based recommendations on sleep hygiene;
  • discuss practical methods for improving rest quality under increased anxiety;
  • share their own experiences and effective strategies for healthy sleep.

“Proper sleep is not a luxury, but a necessary condition for maintaining not only physical but also mental health. This is especially important for young people during periods of intense study and in the face of modern challenges,” emphasized Professor Harbuzova during the meeting.

Students actively participated in the discussion, noting that such events are invaluable for developing healthy habits and improving quality of life. Participants highlighted that educational initiatives like this contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as mental health is a universal human right. It enables individuals to live fully, realize their potential, work effectively, and care for others without neglecting themselves.
