Dear professors, students, postgraduate researchers, alumni, and friends of the Department!
This year, we proudly celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a Course in Medical Biology — one of the key scientific and educational centers of our university. These have been 32 years of dedicated work, scientific discoveries, pedagogical excellence, and the formation of a medical elite.
Over the years, the Department has:
- Conducted hundreds of scientific studies in the fields of fundamental and clinical physiology, pathophysiology, and molecular biology.
- Introduced modern teaching methods, integrated interdisciplinary approaches, and actively developed international cooperation.
- Trained thousands of students who became highly qualified doctors, scientists, and educators.
It has become a tradition for our Department to organize numerous events that promote scientific thought, improve the educational process, and strengthen interdisciplinary connections. Over the past year, we have implemented a number of initiatives that have become vivid examples of the Department’s active role in the academic life of the university.
We held 15 meetings of the Student Scientific Club (link), with the participation of 53 student speakers and 78 engaged attendees. The most active students were awarded certificates at the end of the year (link).
The Department also organized Olympiads in medical biology, physiology, pathophysiology, and, for the first time, in clinical physiology (link). With the support of the Adaptation and Career Guidance Sector of the Student Directorate of the Medical Institute, we conducted an intellectual competition — the Biological Brain-Ring (link).
Another highlight was the Brain Week initiated by our Department in cooperation with the SumDU Library, aimed at raising public awareness of neuroscience and joining the global Brain Awareness Week (link).
A series of events was held in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, including the lecture “Reactions to Stress and Emotional Stabilization”, the interactive session “Psycho-emotional Balance — From Reaction to Resource” (link) by Assoc. Prof. Olha Obukhova, the preventive lecture “Sleep as an Essential Component of Mental Health” (link), the webinar “Self-Regulation and Stress: How to Activate Your Own Resources” (link), and the lecture “Secrets of the Brain’s Nightlife: What Really Happens When We Sleep” (link) , by Prof. Viktoriia Harbuzova.
We also hosted the first-ever “Physiological Oscar” Award Ceremony (link), recognizing students for academic excellence, scientific achievements, leadership, and active participation.
Thanks to the efforts of our faculty, the Second Biological School for high school students was held (link). along with multiple excursions to the Department, the Parasitology Museum, and the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, aimed at promoting medical education (link).
The faculty of the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a Course in Medical Biology also joined the Jean Monnet International Winter School “ACADEMIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION – 2025”, organized by the Department of Ecology and Environmental Management of the National University of Food Technologies within the framework of EU Erasmus+ projects.
Moreover, our staff actively participated in numerous congresses, international conferences, trainings, lectures, webinars, and professional development programs. Over the past year, the Department registered 2 copyrights, published 2 textbooks with 6 more in preparation, and released over 10 research papers in journals indexed in Scopus.
These achievements are the result of the dedicated teamwork of our staff, the inspiration of our students, and the support of the academic community.
As part of the celebration, a solemn meeting of the Department took place. This event was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our journey, share accomplishments, take pride in our common cause, and outline new horizons.
We sincerely invite everyone who has been and remains part of our departmental family to join the celebration.
With respect,
The Faculty of the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a Course in Medical Biology
