The Nobel Prize is one of the most prestigious international awards, granted annually for outstanding scientific research, groundbreaking inventions, or significant contributions to culture or societal development.<\/p>

Every November, the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology traditionally holds a meeting of the student scientific club dedicated to this event.<\/p>

On November 19, 2025, another meeting of the \u201cPhysiology Club\u201d took place, featuring reports on the 2025 Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine. This year, the prize in this field was awarded to three scientists \u2014 Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimon Sakaguchi.<\/p>

They will share the prize \u201cfor fundamental discoveries related to peripheral immune tolerance,\u201d as stated on the website of the Nobel Committee.<\/p>

According to CNN, the laureates identified \u201cregulatory T-cells,\u201d which function as \u201cguardians of the immune system\u201d and prevent immune cells from attacking our own bodies.<\/p>

\u201cTheir discoveries have been crucial for our understanding of how the immune system functions and why not all of us develop severe autoimmune diseases,\u201d said Olle K\u00e4mpe, Chair of the Nobel Committee.<\/p>

The reports presented at the meeting were engaging and informative, including:
\u2014 fourth-year student Olga Chernysh (MC.m-215), \u201cShimon Sakaguchi (Japan) \u2014 Research on Regulatory T-Cells\u201d;
\u2014 second-year student Lyubomyr Berh (MC.m-405), \u201cThe Significance of the 2025 Nobel Laureates\u2019 Discoveries in Physiology or Medicine for Modern Medicine\u201d;
