As part of the cooperation between Sumy State University (SumDU) and the Sumy Comprehensive School I\u2013III degrees No. 24, a meeting was held on May 26 between 9th grade students and their parents with the curators of specialized classes. The biological track was presented by Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a course in Medical Biology of the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute of SumDU, Antonina Biesiedina.<\/p>

The educational and scientific opportunities of the university were presented to the participants by Yurii Merzliakov, Head of the Center for Pre-University Education and Career Guidance at SumDU. School principal Anna Ryshkova emphasized the importance of effective communication between higher education institutions and secondary schools, highlighting the success of the partnership between Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24 and SumDU, aimed at improving the quality of student education.<\/p>

Antonina Biesiedina introduced the participants to the modernization of the content and methods of implementing the biological track\u2019s educational programs, which are aimed at developing competencies, values, and attitudes toward sustainable nature conservation among school students. After all, future graduates should not only understand the integrity of nature and the interconnection of its objects and phenomena, and explain biological processes using scientific reasoning, but also care for their own health and the health of others\u2014one of the Sustainable Development Goals declared by the UN.<\/p>

During the meeting, Antonina Biesiedina discussed the possibilities of educational and professional pathways, and the promotion of biological and medical education. She spoke about the importance of biology and ecology in human life, particularly in health preservation: developing new methods for diagnosis and treatment of diseases; disease prevention; recommendations for a healthy lifestyle; and correction of hereditary diseases and defects at the molecular and cellular levels. Special attention was given to the importance of biological knowledge for future medical professions such as “Medicine,” “Physical Therapy and Ergotherapy,” and “Dentistry.” The meeting also addressed the possibilities for cooperation with the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology with a course in Medical Biology at the Educational and Scientific Medical Institute of SumDU. All attendees were informed about the department\u2019s educational and scientific work and the involvement of high school students in its activities.<\/p>
