On April 24, another meeting of the Student Scientific Society was held. The theme of the meeting was “Shock: Physiology and Pathophysiology of Different Types of Shock.”<\/p>

Shock is a generalized form of acute circulatory failure that poses a life-threatening condition, associated with insufficient oxygen consumption by cells. It is a state in which the cardiovascular system fails to deliver an adequate amount of oxygen to the tissues according to their needs. As a result, cellular dysoxia develops, leading to increased anaerobic metabolism and elevated lactate production. Shock is most often accompanied by hypotension.
The following students prepared detailed presentations on the topic:<\/p>

  1. “Extracardiac Obstructive Shock: Causes, Diagnosis, and Treatment”\u2014 Ihor Starostenko, \u041c\u0426.\u043c-215.<\/li>
  2. “Modern Aspects of Hypovolemic Shock”\u2014 Bohdana Vysotska, \u041c\u0426.\u043c-304.<\/li>
  3. “Physiology and Pathophysiology of Septic Shock”\u2014 Angelina Robotko, \u041c\u0426.\u043c-102.<\/li>
  4. “Psychogenic Shock and Its Relation to PTSD”\u2014 Inna Hrytsenko, \u041c\u0426.\u043c-104.<\/li><\/ol>

    Among other topics, the discussion covered the use of colloidal solutions containing albumins or hyperoncotic starch in the treatment of hypovolemic shock.
    It was emphasized that extracardiac obstructive shock arises due to a mechanical obstruction of blood flow in the vessels or heart, leading to a sharp decrease in cardiac output despite preserved myocardial contractility.
    It was also highlighted that psychogenic shock may become a precursor to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) if the stress reaction persists and transforms into a chronic condition.<\/p>
