On February 27, the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology welcomed schoolchildren\u00a0from Sumy Secondary School No. 15 of the Sumy City Council.<\/p>

During the meeting, Associate Professor Antonina BIESIEDINA\u00a0gave a fascinating talk on interesting aspects of parasitology. The students had the opportunity to explore the department’s collection of specimens and see what these parasites look like, as well as how they adapt to new living conditions. Visitors learned about parasitism, discovering the most dangerous and widespread parasites in our region. They also studied how these tiny creatures can be both harmful and beneficial to humans, including their use for medical purposes.<\/p>

Additionally, Assistant Zoya LEVCHENKO engaged the students in an experiment on blood group identification. The students learned that blood type can reveal many interesting facts about its owner. During the masterclass, they had the chance to determine their own blood type and Rh factor. This activity was highly engaging and exciting, as the students witnessed the agglutination reaction firsthand. Zoya LEVCHENKO emphasized the clinical significance of blood type and Rh factor determination, particularly in cases of blood transfusion, surgical intervention, and traumatic injuries. Blood group identification is a laboratory test aimed at determining the antigenic structure of a person’s red blood cells.<\/p>

This event helped stimulate students’ interest and motivation in studying medical subjects and discovering new opportunities for future success in their professional lives.<\/p>
