OLEKSANDR VASYLOVYCH ATAMAN<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/p>

Oleksandr Vasylovych Ataman was born on January 1, 1954, in Lutsk, Volyn Oblast.<\/p>

In 1977, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine at the Kyiv Medical Institute named after Acad. O.O. Bohomolets, and in 1980, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Pathological Physiology of the same institute.<\/p>

In 1980, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic: \u201cExperimental Data on the Energy Supply of Arteries and Veins with Impaired Innervation\u201d (specialty: 14.03.04 \u2013 pathological physiology; scientific supervisor \u2013 Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences M.N. Zayko). In 1991, he published his doctoral dissertation titled \u201cEnergy Supply of Arteries and Veins in Connection with Their Different Resistance to Damaging Factors (Experimental Study)\u201d (specialty: 14.03.04 \u2013 pathological physiology; scientific consultants \u2013 Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences M.N. Zayko, Professor Yu.V. Byts).<\/p>

From 1977 to 1993, Oleksandr Vasylovych worked at the Kyiv Medical Institute named after Acad. O.O. Bohomolets (now National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets) as a postgraduate student, assistant, and then professor at the Department of Pathological Physiology. In 1993, at the invitation of the administration of SumDU, Professor Ataman moved to Sumy to establish a new department \u2013 the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology, which he led for nearly 30 years.<\/p>

Oleksandr Vasylovych is an outstanding educator and organizer. He is the author of a textbook on pathophysiology for students of higher medical educational institutions (in two volumes), which is used by students in all higher education institutions in Ukraine. His contributions include over 20 textbooks and study guides.<\/p>

      Professor O.V. Ataman was the first in the medical institute to introduce computer technologies for education and a rating system for assessing knowledge.<\/p>

      At his initiative, the first five All-Ukrainian Olympiads in Pathological Physiology were held at the medical institute.<\/p>

      A significant part of Oleksandr Vasylovych’s activity was devoted to training scientific and pedagogical personnel. Under his supervision, 6 candidates and 1 doctoral dissertation were defended.<\/p>

          He inspired the establishment of a scientific laboratory for molecular-genetic research at SumDU, which he led for over 10 years. During this time, about 20 dissertations and 3 projects with state budget funding were completed in the laboratory.<\/p>

          At the initiative of Oleksandr Vasylovych, an approval council for the preliminary examination of dissertation works in medical and biological sciences was created at the medical institute, of which he was the chair. Other duties successfully undertaken by Professor Ataman O.V. included serving as Deputy Chair of the Specialized Academic Council D 55.051.05 at Sumy State University, member of the Scientific and Academic Councils of Sumy State University, and member of the editorial boards of the \u201cPhysiological Journal\u201d and the \u201cJournal of Clinical and Experimental Research.\u201d<\/p>

          The scientific achievements of Oleksandr Vasylovych were highly valued by the entire Ukrainian scientific community. He served as Vice-President of the Scientific Society of Pathophysiologists of Ukraine, was a member of the Expert Council on the Examination of Dissertations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and an expert in the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (section \u201cBiology, Biotechnology, Nutrition\u201d).<\/p>

          In honor of his teacher, Professor Ataman initiated the organization of scientific readings named after M.N. Zayko in Sumy. Over 11 years, notable scientists such as Prof. Dosenko V.Ye., Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Reznikov A.H., Prof. Hozenko A.I., Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Sahach V.F., Prof. Klymenko M.O., Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Sukhodub L.F., Prof. Diachenko A.H., and Prof. Shandra O.A. delivered lectures at the event. Professor Ataman O.V. was also active in public life. He was elected a deputy of the Sumy City Council of the IV convocation (2002-2006) and served as Secretary of the Sumy City Council from May 2003 to January 2005. He was instrumental in creating the Statute of the city of Sumy. \u00a0<\/p>

          For his fruitful activity, Professor Ataman O.V. was awarded several honors and distinctions:<\/strong><\/p>

          – O.O. Bohomolets Prize from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2003); \u00a0<\/p>

          – Honorary Certificate from the Ministry of Education of Ukraine (2000); \u00a0<\/p>

          – Commemorative Badge from the Sumy City Council \u201c60 Years of Liberation of the City of Sumy from Fascist Invaders\u201d (2003); \u00a0<\/p>

          – Honorary Certificate from the Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration (2008); \u00a0<\/p>

          – Badge of Honor \u201cExcellence in Education\u201d (2011). \u00a0<\/p>

          Oleksandr Vasylovych had a wonderful family, raising a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren.
